Board Vacancies: Treasurer

Algoma Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Centre (ASARC) is a two-faceted agency. Breton House is a bed-based substance use treatment facility for women 19 years and older. A New Link is a community-based substance use program offering supportive services for pregnant women and women who have had children.

The ASARC Board of Directors works with and supports staff in both programs to ensure that program needs are met through effective governance, decision-making, and advocacy for the benefit of those living with substance use disorders in our region.

Any interested member of the public, 18 years and older, can apply. We are looking for candidates that are energetic and skilled in a variety of ways to add to an already strong team. This is a volunteer position.

Commitment:

  • Attend Board meetings on the third Thursday of each month from September to June at 5:00 p.m. (approximately one hour in duration). Meetings may be held virtually, therefore access to a good internet connection is important. Meetings are held at A New Link (126 Queen Street E).
  • Sit on one or more committees of the Board.
  • Participate in various ASARC events during the year.
  • Serve a two (2) year term.

Qualifications:

We are seeking individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas who can provide valuable insight and guidance to the Board:

  • Interest in / passion for substance use reduction services
  • Financial management, accounting, bookkeeping, or auditing experience
  • Experience reviewing financial statements and budgets
  • Familiarity with nonprofit governance and financial oversight
  • Marketing/social media/ public relations experience
  • Program planning and evaluation
  • Development of strategic plans
  • Fundraising
  • Human Resources
