For Moms – A New Link

Mission: A New Link strives to improve the health and well being of pregnant and parenting women who have substance use issues.

Philosophy: A New Link believes that women have the right to individualized treatment, which respects their personal goals, including abstinence and harm reduction.

Purpose:

  • To promote healthy pregnancy, birth and infancy.
  • To provide support to pregnant and parenting women who are experiencing substance use problems in Sault Ste. Marie.
  • To improve parenting and family support for families affected by substance use.
  • To provide the missing link to existing services for pregnant and parenting women with substance use problems and their families.

Goal: The goal of A New Link is to support pregnant and parenting women and their families affected by substance use and their families, to improve parenting, and to influence a decrease in the harmful effects of alcohol and drug use on children. Every effort will be made to help reduce barriers for women so they may receive help to address their substance use issues.

Services:

  • Alcohol and Drug Assessments
  • Individual Counselling
  • Education on Substance Use and the Effects on Family
  • Referrals to Appropriate Services
  • Support Groups for Moms (childcare and transportation may be provided)
  • Educational groups (transportation and childcare may be provided)
  • Community Kitchen (in partnership with the Red Cross)

Referrals: Women may be referred from a variety of agencies, doctors, hospitals, family members, friends or they may be self-referred. We will work in partnership with other community services in order to best meet the needs of women and their families.
